Abstract

This study aims to make a comparative analysis of the discourse found in the titles of news from Folha de Sa?o Paulo (Brazil) and Publico (Portugal) newspapers about the Orthographic Agreement. The objective is to observe the enunciative strategies present in the discourse about the subject. For this purpose, we use a method of discourse semiotics, designated Discourse Analysis. We examined the titles of news that circulated in 2008 in both newspapers and had as their themes the Orthographic Agreement. According to Fiorin (2008) there are not many orthographic differences between Brazil and Portugal, and this is why there is no impediment in understanding texts in both versions. However, the orthographic duplicity locks the international diffusion of Portuguese sinceofficial documents of theorganizationsthat adoptedPortuguese asofficial language need to be written in the version adopted by each country, because the variations are considered incorrect. Thus, in order to minimize these differences, it was signed, in 1990, the text of the Orthographic Agreement, ratified, however, only in 2008 by Cabo Verde, Sa?o Tome? e Pri?ncipe, Brazil and Portugal. Because of the importance of this Agreement the objective of this work is to observe what enunciative strategies are present in the discourse of the titles of news from the newspapers aforementioned on the subject. For this we use the method of discourse analysis and through some discursive tools, we observe the issues implicit in the tissue of text. We see the production of meaning in the newspapers taking into account the concepts of enunciative heterogeneity, polyphony and dialogism, legitimacy and credibility, among others. We observed, for example, that the newspapers tend to favor an approach to the Orthographic Agreement both in Publico and Folha de Sao Paulo.
