Abstract

The work here presented has as main purpose to reflect on the role of image in Portuguese print journalism, specifically in health news. Not being presented as an extensive corpus of pictures, we decided to focus on the reflections in a theoretical approach, serving the image chosen only to

illustrate the ideas. As a result, it seems that there is no iconic images of health, pointing the indicial aspect of these. In this sense, the images of health do not represent the reality by similarity feature,

but viewpoints that are recognized by a previewer to be socially contextualized.
