This article focuses on the online publications of two collective of independent media – “Mídia Ninja”and “Jornalistas Livres” - in order to understand the metajournalistic practice present in speech. Equipped with digital interconnect technologies, such as high-speed networks and mobile devices, these groups gain visibility in the media field and insert new questions in journalism studies. Quantitative and qualitative methodological resources are used to verify the occurrence of a self-referential discourse on journalism, as well as the main language of the distinguishing marks of this emerging practice. The empiricism allows us to argue that metajournalism is present regularly in the independent media discourse, producing tensions that influence the course of the journalistic field.
