Disciplines, Paradigms and Perspectives: The place of Paquete de Oliveira in the construction of the field of Communication Sciences in Portugal

Abstract

Based on the concepts of discipline, paradigm and look, this article has two main objectives: i) Reflect on the construction of the field of Communication Sciences in Portugal; ii) Analyze how Paquete de Oliveira looks to this construction. In order to achieve the first objective, the article analyses the disciplines and paradigms to which the most important founders of the communication sciences in Portugal, including Paquete de Oliveira, belong. With regard to the second one, it is sought to characterize the specific look of Paquete de Oliveira on communication sciences based on the analysis of two articles he published in 2000 and 2002.
