Soccer as a protagonist in Brazilian television news

In the communication sciences, it is visible the need for an investigation about relationship between football, mega events, media and journalism. Journalistic responsibility can not be marginalized when respects the public interest and the subjects. An academic investigation is important when there is strong and wrong economic and ideological motivations in the media. In the same way when there is a spectacle of sports competitions and the consequent abandonment of the news value in favor of a "sports conversation". It should be noted when issues such awareness, public interest and unpredictability are abandoned by Brazilian press. This research discusses how football is becoming a leading role in the Brazilian television journalism, specifically during the FIFA World Cup, with direct interference in Brazilian television agenda. The work investigates how the FIFA World Cup affects journalism production in Brazil, detailing the way the sport event is reported. The aim is to investigate how television journalism becomes a mega sports event. The research investigate the most traditional and watched news program in Brazil, Jornal Nacional (Globo TV), using scheduling theories, news values and gatekeeping. Content Analysis was chosen as theoretical methodology. This research is under development.
